
7/31/2026.- Japanese space venture AstroX conducted a balloon test in Ofunato, Iwate Prefecture, as part of its development of a Rockoon system designed to carry small rockets into the stratosphere. The approximately 8-meter-diameter balloon was launched shortly after 5:30 a.m. carrying a 40-kilogram gondola with measurement equipment.
According to the company, the balloon was intentionally ruptured at an altitude of 4,000 meters, after which the payload descended by parachute and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean approximately 20 kilometers southeast of the launch site. AstroX plans further tests using payloads weighing about 300 kilograms.

7/31/2026.- Tucson-based balloon company World View launched a Stratollite from Scarlett Martínez International Airport in Río Hato, Panama. The flight marked the first known stratospheric balloon launch from the country since the end of the U.S. Air Force’s Ashcan atmospheric sampling program in the 1980s.
The balloon was reported to be operating at an altitude of 70,000 feet over Panama’s Caribbean coast. World View had not disclosed the mission objectives or whether additional launches were planned. According to local media reports citing the company, the Stratollite was expected to complete its mission in Arizona.

7/22/2026.- U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to Multi-Domain Command – Europe will conduct a Micro High-Altitude Balloon (Micro-HAB) training event in Poland in July 2026, supporting deterrence and readiness along NATO's eastern flank.
The training event will launch from Powidz, Poland, and conclude with recovery operations near Ustka, Poland.
The exercise validates procedures for launching, monitoring, controlling, and recovering high-altitude platforms while evaluating experimental payloads and operational concepts in a realistic operating environment.
