Details of the balloon flight

Balloon launched on: 12/20/2025 at
Launch site: Williams Field, McMurdo Station, Antarctica
Balloon launched by: Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility (CSBF)
Balloon manufacturer/size/composition: Zero Pressure Balloon
Flight identification number: 761N
End of flight (L for landing time, W for last contact, otherwise termination time): 12/25/2025
Balloon flight duration (F: time at float only, otherwise total flight time in d:days / h:hours or m:minutes - ): 5 d 2 h 6 m
Landing site: On the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, near Queen Maud Land, Antarctica

The balloon was launched on December 20th, 2025. Soon after reaching float altitude of 120.000 ft was evident that it was experiencing a steady lose of altitude which in an ambient of permanent daylight as is the Antarctica in the summer, could be only due a leak in the balloon itself. Finally in December 25, 2025 the balloon landed on the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, close to the region known as Queen Maud Land but far from any permanent research stations.
